Soon you'll have students with you in the room and students at home through Zoom. Students may need help across different locations. Come up with ONE streamlined way for students to ask for and get help. Consider using a digital Help Board — one place where students can ask for help and one place that you need to check! Look at these sample digital Help Boards and choose a format that works best for you!
Social Studies — Freedom, It's Worth the Fight:
Protests and assemblies have been part of America's history since before it was a country! In this authentic learning unit, students gain an understanding of the Civil Rights Movement, its leaders, strategies, successes, and setbacks to inspire and inform their own movement.
Math — Functioning ... as an Entrepreneur:
Solve a problem and make money! In this authentic learning unit, students use the IDE Corp. Design Process to identify a problem and create a solution in the form of a written business plan that they will present to a venture capitalist. To create the business plan, they will first need to learn and apply knowledge of functions. Additionally, the students engage in reading and synthesizing information as they research possible solutions.
English — Today's Crucible: A Modern-Day Witch Hunt:
In this authentic learning unit, students investigate the origins of witch hunts in colonial America by examining primary and secondary sources of the Salem Witch Trials. They compare these witch hunts with those led by Senator McCarthy during the Cold War using Arthur Miller's The Crucible to analyze both. Finally, students will select a modern-day "witch hunt" and determine if it truly fits the definition of the phrase. They will engage in a public debate arguing for their perspectives regarding the authenticity of modern-day witch hunt claims.
